| Comment by hezbo - 15 Dec 2008 - 18:23 [USER NOT REGISTERED] | In Iraq-Iran war which was started by Saddam who was motivated, armed and suppor ted by US as well as other countries, it was only Iraq that used chemicals. The notion that Iran gassed the Kurds in Halabche is easily proven false by four arg uments:
1- Kurds were Iranian allies throughout the war and had a few skirmishes against Sadam, they were even supplied by Iranians helicopters regularly.
2- There is no evidence of chemical attacks by Iran, supposing that Iran gassed Kurds in Halabche village then why didn’t Iran employ chemicals in the south or elsewhere which would have had a greater significance?
3- Judging by the news coverage, photos and statistics more importantly conside ring that many of the victims of Saddam chemical attacks are still alive and suf fering in Iran we can easily realize that Saddam was the only side that used che micals.
4- There are footages of the aftermath of the massacre filmed both from a choppe r and on the ground by Iranians who entered the zone hours later and issued the first reports of the incident. One of them can be viewed on YouTube.
Saddam cannot be a hero by any standards; he was an evil man who was also a pupp et of greater evil men. The story of his life and the crimes he committed cannot be denied. It would be unwise to defend such a man just for some sense of natio nalism.
