Deported Iraqi Asylum Seekers Claim UK Sent Them to Their Deaths

Mathew Walters

October 28, 2009

A group of asylum seekers from Iraq said that, when the Home Office deported them, they were being sent to their deaths. Just earlier this week, members of that same group of asylum seekers that was sent away were able to just survey the latest bomb outrage in Baghdad. This bombing took 155 lives.

The group of Iraqi asylum seekers were sent home just two weeks ago after the British government claimed that Iraq was safe. This announcement came despite the fact that an insurgency kills more than 300 people every month.

One of the deported Iraqi asylum seekers, Kamaran Moulood, age 39, said that he wants the British officials who sent them back to Baghdad to see the bombing. He went on to say that they are in hell, and that their lives are in danger. He is not sure how much more obvious it can be.

Kamaran Moulood was able to spend about four years in Dover after fleeing from Iraq when his brother was killed in his own Baghdad home. Mr Moulood was one of the first nine non-Kurdish Iraqis to be deported by the Home office after the fall of Saddam Hussein.

The men that were deported were apparently put on a plane for Baghada with $100 in their pockets. However, they had no passports or other identity papers. Some asylum seekers even pleaded to not be sent back, claiming that their friends back home have warned against coming back. One of the asylum seekers said that it’s not paranoia in Baghdad, but it’s close to it. Most of the people know the drill. They could simply be walking down the street and then a car explodes. It’s part of everyday life now.
