The Jail
Mohammed, Last of iraqis
As the date of My wedding anniversary becomes closer , I decided to make a surprise trip for both of us , me and my wife , to celebrate our anniversary for 3 weeks in Jordan (...) In the Jordanian airport we waited in hall to meet the intelligence officer, who will decide whether we can enter Jordan or not (...) We waited for about 3 hours , at this time only 14 people are left in the hall , me and my wife , 4 young men , a father and his daughter , 2 mothers with their daughters , a young women and an old women . all of us were waiting , then an officer came to us and told us that we aren't going to enter Amman in the most humiliating way of speaking , and walked away I tried to talk to him but he closed the door in my face…..I was so angry of the way he treated us , we are locked in a small room now , and my wife is scared of closed places , she was so scared and she began to cry hysterically I felt that she will die if she staid like this and again there was nothing I can do , this really makes me hate my self when I can do nothing , I knocked on the door many times but no one answered , it's like a prison , I shouted : don't let us in , just let us out , get us back to Iraq , I don't want to be humiliated like this…… there was no answer , they just ignored us again. After an hour of my wife crying , her eyes are so swelled now , then another humiliating officer talked to us like we were dogs :"get the hell out of here , and go to that room" he pointed , we walked and we saw a dirty corridor with blankets and 3 small rooms , you will sleep the night here , he said. He pushed all of us and locked the door, at this time I wish I could kill one of them for the humiliation we received from them. all of us were so scared from the idea that we will sleep in a jail for the first time in our lives for no crime we did , just because we are Iraqis , why does everyone treat Iraqis like this , we are humans , we aren't aliens , we are not animals to be put in jail for no crime (...) Now I remember at Saddam's times when the Jordanian students come to Iraq and study for free and the government gives them flats and pocket money as to encourage the so called "Arab Unity" what a comedy! They have the priority in applying for the universities in Baghdad, Saddam gave Jordan oil and electricity for free, now I was so mad, but I didn't on whom should I be mad; of Saddam or of Jordanians? Saddam wanted good relations with them so he did that, and that's the way the treat us...

Iraq: The War for Israel
The Fanonite
Last year the respected US political scientists, John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, came under sustained attack for suggesting that the Iraq war would not have happened absent the Israel lobby. Recalling Orwell’s dictum, it has required a constant struggle to help some in the so-called antiwar movement see what is in front of everyone’s nose. So now we have here a senior member of the Democratic Party, which was recently elected into a congressional majority on an unequivocally antiwar mandate, promising Israel that it will keep its concerns foremost in its considerations of the US Iraq policy. Jeffrey Blankfort responds: The US is already fighting a war urged upon us by Israeli officialdom across the board and by the nest of traitors in the US more commonly known as the Israel lobby and here we have one of their hirelings suggesting that Israeli military officers should have input into a decision by the US to withdraw from Iraq....

Gaza: The Auschwitz of our time
Comment by Khalid Amayreh in occupied Jerusalem
In 1940, several months after invading Poland in September 1939, the Nazis forced about 500,000 Jews into the Warsaw Ghetto, surrounding it with a high wall. Tens of thousands died from hunger and disease. Eventually, 300,000 were sent to death camps, mainly Treblinka in eastern Poland. Similarly, Israel is now incarcerating nearly a million and a half helpless Palestinians in the Gaza Strip into a hell similar in nature to the Warsaw Ghetto. The Gaza concentration camp is not only fitted with a wall, but also with every conceivable tool of repression, such as electric fences and watch towers manned by Gestapo-like trigger-happy Jewish soldiers who shoot first and ask questions later. Moreover, thousands of Israeli soldiers, are surrounding Gaza in a hermetic manner, shooting and killing any Palestinian trying to escape, e.g. enter Israel to search for work or even food...

Tough security sends Iraq's Falluja back centuries
Fadel al-Badranim Reuters
Residents of Falluja have seen their streets emptied of cars, motorbikes and even bicycles for more than two months under a vehicle ban aimed at curbing violence in the Sunni Arab town. And they are split. While some welcome the increased security, many complain that it is a form of collective punishment against a town which is synonymous with the insurgency against U.S. forces in Iraq's western Anbar province. "The decision to stop car movement is very unjust and an attempt to increase depression and poverty on the city," said Abdul-Karim Khalid, a 30-year-old car mechanic. "My work has stopped and I have been forced into unemployment. I have spent all my money to ensure my family lives." (...) Taxi driver Jamal Hussein, 46, blamed local authorities and U.S. forces for the loss of his earnings. "They are trying to kill the people of Falluja very slowly"...

American Genocide In The Middle East: Three Million and Counting
David Goodner, CommonDreams.org
Deaths directly and indirectly attributable to the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq have neared one million people, a body count higher than the genocides in Rwanda and Sudan combined, according to a new report released by Just Foreign Policy. That brings the U.S. caused death count in the Middle East to over three million people, and that’s not even counting fatalities in Afghanistan or Palestine. The Just Foreign Policy report is an update to two controversial studies published by the prestigious British medical journal the Lancet. In 2003, the Lancet reported over 100,000 excess deaths in Iraq were attributal to the U.S. invasion. That study may be read here. In 2006, the Lancet updated their study and found over 600,000 excess deaths in Iraq since the U.S. invasion....

"Her injuries are forever"
IRIN
On a Saturday morning in mid May 2006, Hamdi Aman, aged 30 from Gaza, had his world turned upside down. Four members of his family died in an Israeli air strike aimed at an Islamic Jihad activist in Gaza. He is concerned that his daughter, Maria, set to celebrate her sixth birthday next week, will be forced to leave the Israeli hospital where she is being treated for serious injuries sustained in the attack. The authorities want her to go to Ramallah, in the West Bank, but medical workers and Hamdi are worried this will harm Maria...

WHO WILL BE THE FIRST?
Malcom Lagauche
The current list of U.S. presidential candidates who call themselves "anti-war" is laughable. They vary in their amount of opposition to the war in Iraq and criticize each other for their ideas. Edwards signed the authorization for war in 2002, yet he derides Clinton because she voted for it. Obama proudly states that he opposed the invasion and he calls for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. Then, he says they should be sent to Afghanistan. Next, he has threatened Pakistan with an invasion. All candidates call for a planned withdrawal, not an immediate exit. In all the talk about Iraq coming from politicians, there are various matters that are left untouched...

Gunmen in total control of major Baghdad district
Ghazi al-Mahmadawi, Azzaman
The district of Doura in Baghdad is under the control of gunmen who have imposed their system of government based on strict interpretation of Islamic jurisdiction or Sharia. Amid the chaos in the area, described as one of Baghdad’s most violent, gunmen of all sorts and hues wreak havoc among the civilians, turning the district into an arena of murder and kidnapping. The gunmen’s major target is Iraqi Christians in Doura which used to have a sizeable Christian minority, numerous churches and five monasteries...

Daily Kos: CIA Engineered Controlled Opposition?
Kurt Nimmo
Is it possible Markos Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga, leader of the "Kossaks," that is to say followers and fawners of the Daily Kos, is a CIA operative? Francis Holland, posting on the My Left Wing messageboard, details Moulitsas’ relationship with the CIA: "Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, owner of the DailyKos website, now admits that he spent six months in the employ of the US Central Intelligence Agency in 2001," writes Holland. "In a one-hour interview on June 2, 2006 at the Commonwealth Club, Moulitsas, also known as 'Kos,’ admitted that he was a CIA employee and would have 'no problem working for them’ in the present." ...

May Iran's defeat in Saddam's Qadissya be a further incitement to liberate Iraq!
The Arab Baath Socialist Party
...We celebrate today the Iran surrender and defeat anniversary in the face of the great Iraq in a war imposed by the Khomeynist clique lasting no less than eight whole years, to depose the patriotic regime in Iraq and rejecting every international or regional mediation to prevent the war while Iraq did whatever he could to avoid it. The 8th August 1988 will for ever be a witness on the greatness of Iraq, its people and its patriotic leadership and a proof that Iran is a neighbor whose soil is infested with poisonous vipers heinous of the Arab Nation since the rout of the Persian empire on the hands of the Muslim Iraqi conquerors in the first battle of al Qadissya...

Bardawil: Abbas became part of the Zio-American system
Palestinian Information Center
MP Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, the spokesman of Hamas-affiliated change and reform bloc, has belittled the importance of betting on Egypt's role in persuading PA chief Mahmoud Abbas to return to the internal dialogue and not to ignore Hamas because Abbas is no longer an independent Palestinian party but a part of the "Zio-American system." Denying reports of media and political circles that Hamas constitutes a fundamental obstacle to any political project of a settlement, Dr. Bardawil said: "These are false claims because, basically, there is no a settlement process, for the fact that the IOA did not declare its readiness to withdraw to the borders of June 4 of 1967, did not stop the construction of the apartheid wall, did not release the Palestinian detainees, and did not allow the return of refugees, so there can be no process that can be hampered by Hamas."...

A Special Investigation: Pat Tillman as Everyone's Political Football
The Fog of Fame

STAN GOFF, Counterpunch
In 1979, after a break in my Army service and having recouped my sergeant's stripes as a mechanized cavalry scout in Fort Carson, I volunteered for the Rangers. Off to Ranger School I went, and upon completion I was assigned to 3rd Platoon, Company A (Alpha Company), 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Infantry Regiment in Fort Lewis, Washington. Each of the three rifle platoons (organizations of around 40 light infantrymen) had nicknames, in this case, First to Fight, the Blacksheep, and Third Herd. A Company, known for its iron discipline, was called the Alpha-bots. When I left there in 1981 to become a tactics instructor at the Jungle Operations Training Center in Panama, I never had a notion that I might somehow be entangled with Alpha Company again ... two-and-a-half decades later. Brothers Pat and Kevin Tillman were Alpha-bots, assigned to the Blacksheep (2nd Platoon), when Pat was killed by friendly fire on April 22, 2004 near a tiny village called Manah in Paktia Province, Afghanistan, near the Pakistani border. When I was a member of the adjacent platoon in the same building, Pat was a baby...

Tap Root of U.S. Aggression. Pick your war, pick your president
Les Blough (Axis of Logic). Linda S. Heard (Online Journal)
Linda S. Heard's essay* on the warmongering credentials of those pushing to be the next U.S. president in 2008 is rooted in the history of wars executed by the United States government. We add to her timely assessment that the current White House hopefuls follow a long tradition of U.S. presidents. Throughout U.S. history, presidents and presidential candidates have one thing in common: promoting war, making war, escalating war, continuing war or participating in wars on other sovereign nations. The people in the U.S. who support these wars always defend them under the pretext of "national defense", "national security" and "in the national interest". The United States government has been intent on aggression, imperialism, war and dominion from the very beginning. U.S. wars spring from a capitalist system that must feed on unlimited economic growth for its survival with dependency on the theft of the natural resources, foreign markets and cheap labor available in other countries. This voracious appetite has always been in the service of profit for a wealthy few...

“When will you teach this lad English?”
Hussein Al-alak, Coldtype.net
The recent terror attacks on London and Glasgow, by an alleged Al-Qaida-linked group of Medical workers, has led many to question the causes behind the attack but has also raised questions in relation to the issues of migrant integration within the United Kingdom. The attack has been condemned but the question that has been missed by many, is in relation to the historical origins, which many Arab "subjects" actually come from. Charlotte Higgins, the arts correspondent for London’s Guardian newspaper reported last year that a Roman document dated from around AD400 and called the Notitia Dignitatum, described how a unit of Iraqis (from ancient Mesopotamia) were said to have patrolled the English northern area of what is now called South Shields. Higgins explained that "While British soldiers battle it out in Iraq, spare a thought for this: troops from Iraq once occupied Britain."....

Iraq's First No-Frills Airline Takes Flight
Expat Airways Draws Criticism With Its Westerners-Only Policy

TROY McMULLEN
An upstart airline operating weekly flights between Baghdad and Amman, Jordan, is billing itself as the first no-frills airline to operate out of Iraq, but the company is restricting more than just food and booze on its flights. The airline is also banning Iraqis, Indians, Pakistanis and other non-Westerners from traveling. Expat Airways said it is only accepting U.S. and Western citizens on its flights as it tries to capitalize on the thousands of U.S. contractors traveling in and out of the Iraqi capital each month. The airline, which landed its first 42-seat Russian Antonov turboprop at Baghdad International Airport Monday, is thought to be the first to bar passengers based on nationality...

Two more British troops killed in Iraq
Matthew Moore, Telegraph
Two British soldiers have been killed and two others injured after a improvised explosive device exploded near their patrol in southern Iraq. The soldiers, from the 1st Battalion Irish Guards, were travelling in a convoy early this morning to the north Rumaylah oil fields, west of the Basra. Next of kin have been informed but the names of the dead men have not yet been released. Their deaths bring the total number of British service personnel who have died in the country since the 2003 invasion to 168. Four troops have been killed in the last three days in a dreadful week for British forces, who come under near-constant attack when they venture out from their compounds. Earlier this week a senior US intelligence official in Baghdad said the British had "basically been defeated in the south" because they had pulled troops out too early...

Liquidation of Hamas or Termination of the Right of Return through Economy
Dr. Adel Samara, PalestineFreeVoice
Is it right to declare a state before the state build its economy, its productive bases? Is it possible for a huge bureaucratic apparatus to last while there is no local productive base to meet its enormous salaries and needs? Is it possible to achieve freedom without sovereignty? Is it possible to sustain democracy without independence? These are the main reservations against Oslo Accords (OA), and against the recent elections of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) in the West Bank and Gaza Strip (WBG) for the Palestinian Self- Rule (SR), in spite of its technical success...
